In its 60th Anniversary Annual Salute to Youth Concert, the Utah Symphony performed a variety of concertos with ten young instrumentalists, including Brigham Young University freshman Avery Gunnell.

Avery and the other nine performers were selected from over 100 original applicants, narrowed down by a rigorous three-round audition process.

Native to Alta, Utah, Avery now studies with Dr. Stephen Beus. Reflecting on Avery’s performance of Edward MacDowell’s Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Dr. Beus remarked, “Avery gave a stellar performance... Huge ovation--really a fantastic evening!”

The piano department at Brigham Young University is proud to be represented by students who exemplify the program’s excellent tradition of accomplished performers. Congratulations, Avery!
