Competition Rules
Eligibility:
This competition is for piano students who are residents of Utah only. There are three age categories between 10 and 26 years of age. Participants in the Junior category must be at least 10 years old by April 15th. Participants in the Young Artist Category cannot be older than 26 years old by April 15th.
Categories:
Junior:
- Age: 10–14
- Entry Fee: $40
- Free solo repertoire with at least two contrasting pieces: 10-15 minutes
Senior:
- Age: 15–18
- Entry Fee: $50
- Free solo Repertoire with at least two contrasting pieces: 10-15 minutes
Young Artist:
- Age: 19–26
- Entry Fee: $60
- Free solo repertoire with at least two contrasting pieces: 15-20 minutes
Video Recording and Repertoire Choice Regulations
- The time limit for each category may be exceeded by 5 minutes, but the judges will only listen to their required amounts. The minimum time limit must be met.
- Each category's repertoire requirements are free choice and must be for solo piano. Because of recording constraints, concertos and chamber works are not allowed. An all around winner for the best under-represented composer performance will be awarded.
- Video recordings must show the contestant’s full body, including feet. No editing of the video is allowed.
- Do not announce yourself or your pieces in the video.
- Individual YouTube videos may be submitted for each piece.
- Upload the video as unlisted on YouTube, titling the video with the names of the pieces in consecutive order. Again, do not list your name.
- Upon registration, further information will be given regarding how to submit your YouTube link.
